The New Year

One of the bad things about the new year is the year change. It's now 2009, so I'll have to write that on everything with a date. It takes me about half a year to get it into my mind that the year has changed (sadly, this also happens when I become older. I might someday become glad of this, but it is embarrassing when you must be corrected about your age).
Also, there is the way I enjoyed ringing in the new year. My plan, write letters to people and end it with writing at the end of the letter when I finished it. So the beginning of the letter was written in 2008 then the second in 2009. Very cool sounding and I wished I had done it. But instead I read a book. In front of the very warm fire. It would have been better with hot chocolate (which I now suddenly want) but I didn't think ahead. Side story: one year my sister and I had stayed awake to watch the clock click past the twelve, declaring a new year. When the hand reached the twelve though, bells started to ring. Excitedly, my sister and I stuck our head out a window in our basement to hear better. Only it grew dimmer. Still, it was interesting and something to alert dad about. So up we went bursting with our find. We entered his room to find him at the computer with a bell sound clip playing.
A year or two later, we decided to stay up again. For some reason, we had forgotten precisely how a previous year had gone. We were expecting bells. Confused, we went out side in bare feet in snow to see if the house walls were blocking out the sound. I just remembered that story because that new year's after the bell incident, we couldn't figure out why the bells weren't playing. Must of been because my dad was asleep.
I now I took the long way around to saying
Enjoy the frsh Year!
but your probably use to me now. Hope you enjoyed your naptime. I was practicing for when I get older.
